The Historic Pittsburgh project has maps from the 1872 G. M. Hopkins Pittsburgh atlas and subsequent editions, as well as other maps and views of the city and some books that show maps. The mosaic was created using ArcGIS software from the scanned JPEG images, varying from 300-600 dpi. These images were obtained from the Historic Pittsburgh website The images were georeferenced to WGS84 Web Mercator and the borders were clipped to create a contiguous map Original 1872 City of Pittsburgh Atlas map showing the Mt. Washington neighborhood including the Monongahela Incline and Chatham Village. The antique hand colored map is in good condition and measures 20 x 17 1/2 inches The map was provided by G. M. Hopkins and a similar copy appeared in the Hopkins' Atlas of the Cities of Pittsburgh, Allegheny, and the Adjoining Boroughs, 1872 (see Historic Pittsburgh ). The Pittsburgh & Western Railroad was originally organized September 7, 1877, under the name of the Pittsburgh, New Castle & Lake Erie Railroad.
